My Favorite Mistake

Remember your first love?

The first person to tell you they loved you? .

The heartbreak of when it all fell to pieces.

Remember crying and thinking you'll never quite love someone to that depth and magnitude ever again?

Mine happen to all be the same person and thanks to Face book, I got to see his wedding photos last week. He looks happy, she has a beautiful smile. I noticed the sadness reflected in his eyes of his deceased parents being there only in spirit.

Jaded? perhaps. Bitter? Oh God, I hope never. Protective of this heart O'mine- ALWAYS.

Oh, I do, I DO!!! My first love and I have connected again via Facebook, and it happened that he was going to be back in our hometown at the same time that I was back in our hometown. We made plans to meet for dinner, but I just found out his plans have changed, and we won't be in town at the same time. Sad.

Um, not because I need to relive some teenage love, but because there's just *nothing* like that first love, and the chance to see each other again was just too wonderful and rare to pass up. Not this time, but maybe someday we'll see each other again, and laugh at how old we've gotten.

Oh, and mine married the girl he started seeing right after me. Of course, they divorced pretty quick (they were 19 when they got married...), but still. It's one of those where you know you'll never feel the same about anyone ever again, where some guy you loved so hard and so deeply wanted to get married, but not to you. Sigh. I am so thankful that *I* wasn't his 19 year old first wife, and that is probably what allows me to think back to that relationship and still feel deep fondness for him instead of that bitter heartbreak.
